The gold pan; a neglected geological tool

In connection with a paper in which the use of the gold pan as a tool for the sampling and study of decomposed bed rock was discussed, notes that panning has been used to advantage in prospecting and geologic mapping in the Gold Coast and Sierra Leone for many years.
