"Banded ironstone" of the Kangari hills, Sierra Leone

Banded magnetite-bearing rocks exposed in several narrow belts in the metamorphic terrain of the Kangari hills, Sierra Leone, are believed to represent aluminous sediments, containing acid volcanic material, whose iron content was derived from submarine volcanic emanations and concentrated into magnetite-rich layers during metamorphism.
