Heavy metal concentration in streams in north Angola

D. J. Atkinson

Concentrations of heavy metals in stream waters near a zone of copper mineralization in the Bembe valley, north Angola, were found to be stable and moderately low during the dry season, very high and variable following the first heavy rains, and stable and very low toward the end of the rainy season. These variations apparently reflect the balance between the amount of metal supplied to the surface drainage by ground waters and dilution by surface runoff.
