Critical remarks on the genesis of ore as applied to future mineral exploration

Challenges the position taken by Anton Gray in a lecture on the future of mineral exploration, in which the importance of igneous rocks as guides to ore deposits is minimized, and critically discusses syngenetic theories of origin recently advocated for the copper deposits of Northern Rhodesia. Evidence in support of a magmatic source for the ore-bearing solutions of the copper belt is summarized, and the significance of the association between ore deposits and calc-alkaline and related intrusive rocks is reaffirmed.
