Ni of possible economic interest has recently been found in an area 15 mi. W. of Little Rock in Saline County, Arkansas. The Ni occurs in sulfides in talc-carbonate rocks, in iron and manganese oxides in weathered serpentine dikes, and disseminated as sulfides in unweathered serpentine. The dikes and the talc-carbonate rock occur in deposits that are currently being mined for soapstone. Assays of samples from the soapstone pits ranged from a trace to 15.0% Ni.
