The role of replacement in the origin of some cockade textures

Jan Kutina, and Sedlackova J.

Cites examples from Czechoslovakian localities of cockade textures which were not formed by successive deposition of minerals around older components (fragments of rock or vein-filling material). Siderite which was the original cement of rock fragments was partially replaced along grain boundaries by quartz in the specimen from Gelnica, by quartz and later tetrahedrite in material from Polkanova, and by quartz and later sphalerite in a sample from the Pribram district. Criteria for recognition of textures formed in this manner are outlined, and it is suggested that existing descriptions of cockade textures be reviewed.
