Small patches of epidote rock in a lump of hard manganese ore (psilomelane) from a late-stage replacement deposit along a small fault cutting altered diorite and Tertiary marble were found to contain flakes of molybdenite. The association with manganese is undoubtedly fortuitous, and it is assumed that the molybdenite was introduced at an earlier stage, during emplacement of the diorite dike. This is the first recorded occurrence of molybdenite in Fiji.
