A geochemical approach to the problem of bauxite genesis in British Guiana

"It is concluded that the bauxite resulted from the removal of silica and iron by leaching when kaolinitic clays, developed from aluminarich bedrock, were subjected to a change in drainage conditions. It is proposed that the bauxite belt of the Guianas represents an old shoreline along which there existed swampy regions, and the suggestion is made that it is the existence together of these swamps with suitable sub-surface material which has resulted in the ultimate formation of the bauxites via an intermediate kaolinitic stage."
