The composition of pyrrhotite in equilibrium with pyrite is used to estimate formation temperatures ranging progressively from 490 degrees C in lower levels to 325 degrees C in upper. Chalcopyrrhotite in upper levels suggests a formation temperature of about 340 degrees C. Trace nickel in pyrrhotite decreases upward and copper increases.
