Uranium ore rolls; an analysis

This review of ore rolls emphasizes their variety and complexity in showing that Adler's 'conceptual uranium ore roll' is greatly oversimplified. Rolls may form entirely within a reducing zone, at periods of maximum burial, and need not indicate a simple reaction between oxidizing ground water and a reducing environment. Some rolls on the Colorado Plateau seem to reflect water movement parallel rather than perpendicular to the roll axis. Recognition of the various types of deposits and their related alteration features can provide useful guides to ore.
