Textural observations (reaction rims, relation to granulation) and petrographic calculations based on a large number of modal analyses suggest that the gabbroic rocks of the area may be products of reaction, during Grenville metamorphism, between pre-existing (pre-Grenville) anorthosite and ore, rather than intermediate products of a magmatic differentiation series. The ultimate origin of the ore is not clear.
