Secondary dispersion of molybdenum from mineralization, Sierra Leone

Anomalies exceeding background of 5 ppm Mo are widespread in the laterite horizons of mature latosols overlying mineralized bedrock. Dispersed Mo tends to be concentrated in the horizon of sesquioxide accumulation, and where such horizon is absent, anomaly due to secondary dispersion is limited in extent. Content of Mo in stream water draining mineralized areas rarely exceeds 0.13 ppb, compared to 0.07 ppb or less from barren areas. The length of anomalous sediment trains is related to ratio of barren to mineralized catchment.
