A 13-foot sill is intruded below and has altered a 5-foot semi-anthracite seam in the Permian of the Bowen basin, Queensland. Ferromagnesian silicates of the intrusive were slightly altered by evolved volatiles. Vitrinite shows an increase from 2 to 12 percent in maximum reflectance towards the contact, approaching graphite-like optical properties. Within the range anthracite-meta-anthracite involved, two distinct types of vitrinite, A and B, show divergent reflectance characteristics.
