Alunite stability relations were studied experimentally at 200-380 degrees C and 15,000 psi total pressure, and invariant points determined for the system alunite-muscovite-kaolinite-K-feldspar-quartz in terms of total molal H 2 SO 4 and K 2 SO 4 . 'The effect of pressure is small. . . Alunite-kaolinite (including dickite or pyrophyllite) are shown to be the most likely products of. . .alteration processes [at high H 2 SO 4 concentration] in either hot spring or higher temperature environments, whereas muscovite-alunite is favored by higher temperature as well as higher potassium concentrations.'
