The uranium potential of diagenetically altered sandstones of the Permian Rush Springs Formation, Cement District, Southwest Oklahoma

Reconnaissance and detailed geologic, radiometric, and geochemical investigations. One previously unreported uranium occurrence was discovered during outcrop reconnaissance. Areas of uranium favorability in the subsurface were identified by the examination of gamma-ray well logs and the interpretation of stratigraphic cross sections derived from electric log data. An aureole of diagenetic alteration which affects the Permian sedimentary sequence overlying the pre-Permian Cement Anticline. Exposed and subsurface diagenetically altered sandstones of the Rush Springs Formation within this aureole constitute a favorable environment for the occurrence of shallow, joint-controlled, sandstone-type uranium deposits, nonchannel-controlled peneconcordant deposits, and classic roll-type deposits. Three subareas have been identified as especially favorable exploration targets within the overall favorable area.--Modified journal abstract.
