In his introductory paper for the first issue of Economic Geology, F.
L. Ransome noted that economic geologists were struggling for
acceptance by the mining community as well as by the broader geology
community around them. A century later, this remains our challenge, as we strive
to communicate the results of our research to other scientists, exploration
geologists, miners, and regulators alike. The purview of economic
