Volcanic Degassing is one of several recent special publications on volcanoes and volcanic processes offered by the Geological Society. This publication resulted from a two-day-long meeting convened in honor of the late Peter Francis. The volume covers various aspects of magmatic volatiles, and their influence on eruption dynamics and effects on the atmosphere. Although wide-ranging, this is not a comprehensive treatment of the subject; rather, the thematic volume is a compilation of papers, which presumably were presented at the meeting. Consequently, some of the gaps and imbalance are likely to frustrate many regular readers of Economic Geology, particularly those who might want to improve their general knowledge on the topic.
