Pitched squarely toward the serious and specialized end of basin analysis, Philip Allen (Imperial College of London) and John Allen (BHP Billiton Petroleum) provide in this book an updated comprehensive overview of large-scale crustal and related basin processes. It is important to note that the authors did not include the word "sedimentary" in the title; this book is not just about sedimentary basins, but also the lithosphere as a whole.
With a strong emphasis on quantifying tectonic, depositional, and postdepositional processes, the focus of the second edition of this book is very much oriented toward the structure and modeling of basinsspecifically, their geodynamic drivers, mass balance, and burial effects. Those familiar with the first edition of this popular book (Allen and Allen, 1990) will immediately notice major changes in the second edition: not only . . . [Full Text of this Article]
