The importance of hypervelocity impact processes in the early development and subsequent history of Earth and other planetary bodies is becoming increasingly accepted into mainstream models of planetary evolution. Although there is a currently flourishing community of impact-focused research scientists, a few pioneering geologists have diligently constructed the knowledge foundation upon which this present research is built.
