The Society of Economic Geologists Awards for 2006* R. A. F. Penrose Gold Medal for 2006 Citation of Stephen E. Kesler*

Mr. President, members, and guests: The Penrose Medal is awarded to individuals that have had a career of significant contributions to economic geology. This year the medal is awarded to a good friend and mentor, Stephen E. Kesler. I cannot think of a more deserving person than Steve for this award, as he has made an outstanding career of creating knowledge for our discipline and supporting the well being of our society by working hard for our professional organization and by creating a generation of excellent economic geologists.

Steve has shown time and time again good taste and the intuition to address and solve problems of significance, ranging from fundamental questions on the evolution of the Earth to applied problems of significance to companies engaged in exploration and exploitation of ore deposits.

A characteristic of Steve’s work is his ability to synthesize vast amounts of information and create new, innovative, and powerful tools to address outstanding questions. . . . [Full Text of this Article]
